Home Depot Gift Card Balance Check
Checking your Home Depot Gift Card balance is going to take some effort. Unlike most gift cards that provide a toll free number or a website on the back of the card for you to check your balance, the Home Depot gift card balance can only be verified by going to a Home Depot store and asking a cashier to check the balance.
It is hard to understand why the Home Depot feels the need to drag people in-store to perform a simple task as checking the balance on their gift card. If the idea is to get people to use the card while they are in the store, it is hard to see how that is effective. At best, this is an annoying inconvenience for most customers. The Home Depot should consider adding at least a toll free number or a website as an option to check the balance on their gift cards.
To check the balance on other gift cards, go to the gift card balance site.

Agreed!! I will never buy a Home depot gift card. I got one for xmas and was looking online to try and check the balance. Walmart, lowes, everyone else has an 800# or A website where you can check. Shame on you Home depot!!
I hate that your gift card balance cannot be checked. I will NEVER purchase a home depot card again.

I agree also, there should be some way other than going to the store to check balances. i tell everyone that Home Depot is my favorite store and I receive alot of gift cards.
not anymore, I have to pass a Lowes to get to the home depot! I guess I’ll save a little on gas too ! thanks Home depot !
I will never buy a Home Depot gift card again. I want merchandise that’s only available online and they won’t honor their own card online. Won’t let me charge it to my Home Depot account and apply the card to that. What a lot of crap!!!!
The Home Depot makes it difficult on purpose. If you won’t come into the store to check the balance, there is no chance you will spend that balance and they keep your money. A couple of bucks spread over millions of gift cards is a nice chunk of change.
We received gift cards for our wedding in December of 2006. We’ve been holding them for a floor remodeling project and now, in 2009, found that only Home Depot lacks a way to check the balance online, and WORSE, only Home Depot deducts a fee so that today our $200 gift card is only worth $102. Lowes, Parr Lumber, etc…all full value and all let me check balance online or with phone call. We were going to drop the whole $2,000 at Home Depot on the project. Not a chance, now. Going to Lowes or Parr Lumber who take care of their customers.
Typical Home Depot Customer Service. . . It leaves alot to be desired.
I will never purchase a home depot gift card, nor will I ever ask for one again. I asked for them for my wedding/bridal shower and recieved one and I think it is very stupid anf annoying that you can’t check the balance online or by phone.
I will definately be telling my wedding guests that I changed my mind about home depot, and to do lowes instead. So if this was your idea of getting people to buy something, you were wrong. It has been the icing on the cake of annoying things I’ve dealt with while planning my wedding. Very very dumb and annoying that I was JUST by home depot today, and waiting til I got home so I could check the balance, all to find out that I can’t do so. >:[
home depot is horrible get a website or 800#
Go to HD’s website and click on an expensive item to purchase online. You’re not required to sign on. Continue through checkout. There will be a box that asks for a promotions code. Type in the number of the gift card. Do not add spaces or the pin number. Select, “update price.” The next screen will tell you how much was applied to the price of the item in red. Obviously, don’t complete the check out process if you don’t want the item. This is the only way I know to check the amount on a gift card without going into the store. Hope it helps.
Home Depot is fine. although you can’t check your balance online, JUST CALL YOUR LOCAL HOME DEPOT AND GIVE THEM THE GIFT CARD NUMBER AND PIN AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE BALANCE.
I just spoke customer service for Home Depot after calling a local store to check a gift card balance and being told they could no longer do that over the phone. I was told that on October 15 Home Depot will accept gift cards for online purchases as well as being able to check the balances of those cards on line. About time! Thank you Home Depot.
Scott, you are wrong. An as far as this Mike Ashland is concerned, he has posted on many websites, and his information is WRONG. The balance does not lose value unless you PURCHASE merchandise with the Home Depot gift card… Quit spreading your lies Mike, and if you don’t believe me folks, call your local Home Depot and ask if there is a service charge EVER on your gift card… THE ANSWER IS NO!! YOU SPEND MONEY WITH THE CARD< IT COMES OFF THE CARD, THAT"S THE ONLY WAY THE MONEY COMES OFF THE CARD!!!
Christine T, thanks for passing along that information. Being able to check the balance online will make life easier for lots of customers. I am wondering why it took Home Depot so long. Next will be TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods.
u CAN check at homedepot .com
just read ! and click on the gift card link , voila done .
Thanks for this information . It is useful for me.
Googled it and this was the first thing that came up. It’s at there website and really easy to do.

its SUCK! that we can not check balance. last time I will buy home depot cards.
FYI…it’s pretty darn easy to check your home depot gift card balance right on the home depot web site…I’m not sure what all the anger above is about….unless this is new.
I just did it….12/2/09
I too am extremely disapointed in Home Depot’s gift card policy. I will NEVER buy or ask for a gift card from HD. In fact I think this policy is enough to send me to Lowe’s in the future. Bad move HD! Listen to the people.
I think they do that just to get you back into the store so you buy more stuff. That would make sense…
This is great info, thanks for the post about Home Depot Gift Cards!!
